Important Information about Atrium’s Closure

March 13, 2020

Dear Atrium Families,

Much has come to pass in the last 24 hours. In the greater Boston area alone, tens of thousands of citizens, as well as hundreds of companies, schools and organizations are now working to “flatten the curve” in the spread of Coronavirus/COVID-19.  Encouragingly, people are following expert advice and taking concrete action to mitigate the impact of the virus. Effective immediately, Atrium joins in this society-wide effort.

Atrium Will Close For Two Weeks

  • Our school closure has now begun, and will continue for a minimum of two weeks.  Our anticipated return is slated for Monday, March 30.

  • During this time, Atrium will continue to monitor the course of the pandemic and consult with experts to determine if longer closure is necessary.

Learning will Continue From Home

  • On Monday March 16, teachers and staff will be at school. Parents and students may come by between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to pick up materials and anything left at school this week.

  • To give families some time to adjust to new routines, home-based learning will begin by Wednesday, March 18.  Throughout the next two weeks, you will receive steady communication and materials from your child’s teachers about distance learning, as well as regular updates from Atrium.

  • While it’s not possible to recreate an Atrium school day in a distance-learning setting, we will make every effort to provide your children with engaging, meaningful and joyful learning experiences during this closure.  We will also work to sustain the vital relationships among teachers, parents and children that characterize the Atrium community.

This Experience will Make our Community Stronger

At Atrium, the values of compassion and curiosity inform everything we do, and this exceptional moment is no different. I approach this unprecedented shift with a sense of wonder: in the face of adversity and unexpected change, what new and unexpected learning will take place?  How will this experience strengthen our resilience and imagination? When we all come together again, what will we freshly appreciate about each other, and about our community? I look forward to that smile-filled day, and invite you to join me in unfolding the answers to these questions.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding in these challenging times.  This message is purposefully brief; future communications will include more details. As always, do not hesitate to contact me with questions or resources.

Warmly,

Marshall
