A VISION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
In 1982, Ginny Kahn opened Atrium School, where educators and families unite to wholeheartedly support children’s delight in learning. Together, we have built a community of deep kindness, equity, and perpetual curiosity. Dedicated teachers and generations of families have sustained our flourishing mission for over four decades. We’ve imagined and implemented numerous strategic plans, inhabited our home campus at 69 Grove Street, and expanded to include a thriving middle school.
Guided by educators keenly adept at challenging and supporting students, diverse learners at Atrium perpetually distill meaning while expanding their perspectives. At Atrium, excellence with joy is always unfolding! The excitement this creates – and the many experiences that result – creates such a wonderful variety of creative, empathic, justice-minded citizens.
From this position of great strength, how do we ensure that Atrium can pursue its mission in perpetuity? We are taking momentous steps toward this goal today.
We have a singular opportunity to ensure the sustained vitality and impact of Ginny’s hopes and dreams for Atrium.
Our Vision:
At Atrium School, excellence and joy coexist in abundance. We believe that they must continually catalyze each other for children to flourish as learners and develop as whole people.
Through our multi-year campaign, Atrium will continue to grow as an acknowledged leader in progressive, innovative PreK – Grade 8 education, preparing young people to discover, develop, and contribute their unique talents from a foundation of academic excellence and joyful, vibrant community.
We have committed as a community to achieving our vision along four interconnected paths:
-
Advance a strong and diverse faculty. Recruit, support, and retain diverse educators, mentors, leaders, and trustees.
-
Deepen Atrium’s culture of equity and academic excellence. Review and renew curriculum to be more inclusive and justice-oriented in every classroom.
-
Re-envision the outdoor campus space. Create teaching and play space, and update water mitigation infrastructure.
-
Achieve financial sustainability while deepening our culture of philanthropy. Build an endowment and sustain robust enrollment.
Continuing the Legacy:
The core themes of Ginny’s original vision for Atrium have become ever more compelling over the past several years. She and her team envisioned a deeply engaged community with a shared commitment to humanity and empathy. They sought to reduce isolation and to create a culture where every voice was heard and every perspective welcomed.
